Panel discussion 'Regional radio, regional television', Mariensaal of the Franciscan monastery in Schwaz; Lecture by Sabine Prokop: Mousse à la TV
The aim of the color television exhibition was to illustrate a cultural comparison using the medium of television. TV programs 'from all over the world' ran simultaneously on 13 monitors. This possibility of a parallel observation should provide information about different perspectives, opinions, forms of presentation, forms of language and optical appearances. Conceived for one exhibition week in each case, a comparison was made in various categories such as talk shows, news, advertising, soap operas, sports and children's programs.
In Austria, the ORF had a monopoly position for years. Only from 2003, and thus as the last country in Europe, did Austria also receive private television that can be received via antenna. In the mid-1990s, the first commercial television channels were installed, and only via cable. However, the legal basis was not regulated, which led to lively discussions in the media world. It was not until August 1, 2001 that the Private Television Act came into force.
On January 25, 1997, the Schwaz City Gallery held a panel discussion on the subject of regional radio and television in the Mariensaal of the Franciscan monastery. The Schwaz mediation expert Dr. Anton Hütter, invited participants were well-known people from the media world such as the media critic Thomas Madersbacher, the then program director of ORF Tirol Josef Kuderna, the media artist Karel Dudesek, the then managing director of Radio T1 Edward Vickers, the then managing director of Regionalradio Tirol Eckhart Köll and the Green politician Sepp Brugger.
